Asante Arellano was set to turn 3 in August. His short life met a tragic ending
sometime Friday.
Around 7:15 p.m. his mother found him unresponsive in the back seat of the
family car.
The Guadalupe County Sheriff's Office said the child made his way inside the
vehicle and was trapped unable to get out. Around 3 p.m. family members thought
he was inside the home, but noticed he missing around 7 p.m.
The website www.kidsandcars.org documents hot car accidents. One report shows an
average hot car annual death rate of 37 kids. Last year, 33 children died in hot
car accidents. Most often a child is left behind and forgotten in the vehicle or
as in the Arellano case, a child wants to play in the car and is unable to get
out alive.
