An 18 month old boy died after being left in his mom's vehicle during the day
Friday at Hubbard Elementary School.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office is investigating, but Sheriff John Cary
Bittick said it was an accident.
The mother, a school employee, is not being identified. She apparently
discovered the boy's limp body when school let out and rushed him to the
emergency room at Monroe County Hospital.
The child was pronounced dead on arrival. The sheriff's office said its
investigation revealed that the child, restrained in a child safety seat, was
left inside the vehicle for an extended period of time. The child's body has
been transported to the GBI Crime Lab in Decatur for an autopsy.
Names are being withheld at this time, pending a routine welfare check on
another child in the household by The Department of Family and Children’s
Services.
This incident is still under investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff’s
Office. Bittick said the mother has not been arrested or charged

Officials said as soon as Chatom discovered her son in the van, she immediately
drove to the Monroe County Emergency Room with the child where he died.
The body was transported to the GBI Crime Lab in Decatur for an autopsy,
