More Details in Baby Death

University of Virginia Police are investigating the tragic death of a baby. It happened over the weekend.

Police sources tell us this tragedy could have been prevented, and that the baby was accidentally left unattended inside a car for an extended period of time.

It was around 4PM on Friday when paramedics were called to the Judge Advocate parking lot on UVa grounds. When they arrived, the baby was not breathing. The police report said the infant was in cardiac arrest. It’s not clear how long the baby had been in the car, but we’re told the mother was at the scene.

According to our meteorologists, it was 67 degrees at its hottest on Friday. Doctors said even in 60 to 70 degree weather, cars could heat to dangerous levels.

An autopsy was performed on the baby in Richmond on Monday.

We're also told it’s routine, but the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office has been consulted in this case. No charges have been filed against the mother or anyone else at this time.

Investigators are now waiting on those autopsy results to determine exactly how the baby died.
