Father booked in death of 4-year-old allegedly left in hot car

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A man whose son died after reportedly being left in a hot car has been booked with negligent homicide.
Stephen Cronvich had been booked with cruelty to a juvenile after 4-year-old Michael Cronvich was taken to Children's Hospital last Thursday.

The boy died Sunday and Cronvich was rebooked Tuesday with negligent homicide, said Gary Flot, a New Orleans Police Department spokesman.

Michael Cronvich died of heat stroke, but Coroner Frank Minyard has not classified the death because the police report is not yet complete, said chief coroner's investigator John Gagliano.

The boy reportedly was left in a car for three hours, the coroner's office and the Orleans Parish District Attorney's Office have said. The highest recorded temperature in New Orleans Sunday was 90 degrees.

The District Attorney's Office will decide what to do once it gets police and coroner's reports, spokesman Dalton Savwoir said Tuesday.
